Contact information can be found on the STARGÅTE MOD homepage (http://www.sg-mod.de.vu/) or on the bottom of this document. ------------------------------------------------------------ (2) INSTALLÅTION ------------------------------------------------------------ (I) umod version ---------------- If you have downloaded the umod version of the STARGÅTE MOD, i.e. you have a file called "StargateForUT.umod", just double- click on it. If the installer does not show (but a window that wants to assign a certain program to .umod files), the .umod file association is messed up (or you don't have UT installed). If you have UT installed, search the web for "umod fix" or something like that to get help. I will also add a FAQ on the STARGÅTE MOD homepage where you can get more information about this. NOTE: If you have UT2003 or installed, it has maybe overwritten the .umod file assiciation. When a window with UT2003 logo appears after double-clicking the .umod file, this is the case. This will also soon be discussed in the FAQ on the STARGÅTE MOD homepage. In the meanwhile, you should install the STARGÅTE MOD by hand by downloading the non-umod (zipped or setup) version of the mod. (II) zipped version ------------------- First, open the .zip file with any unzip program (WinZip, WinRAR, WinAce, PowerArchiver, etc.). Then, extract the files in the archive into the following directories: - Into your UnrealTournament\System directory: Stargate.exe SG.u SG2.ini SG2Def.ini - Into your UnrealTournament\Maps directory: SG2-Credits.unr SG2-Darkness.unr SG2-Desert.unr SG2-Extro.unr SG2-Intro.unr SG2-LavaCave.unr SG2-Mission.unr SG2-PowerOn.unr SG2-Story.unr SG2-TarydiumMine.unr SG2-Wormhole.unr - Into your UnrealTournament\Help directory: StargateForUT.bmp StargateForUT.ico StargateForUT.txt If you have extracted all the files correctly, you should be able to run the STARGÅTE MOD by double-clicking on the file "Stargate.exe" in your UnrealTournament\System directory. You can also make a link to this file from you desktop or the start menu. Don't move this file to any other location, it will not work any more if you do so. (III) setup version ------------------- If you have downloaded the setup version of the STARGÅTE MOD, just double-click on the exe and follow the instructions on the screen. You will have to specify the Unreal Tournament installation directory as installation directory, so look where you have installed UT. ------------------------------------------------------------ (3) IMPORTÅNT INFORMÅTION ------------------------------------------------------------ The whole STARGÅTE MOD project actually consists of three different projects: (I) Original Stargate Map (II) STARGÅTE MOD for UT (III) STARGÅTE MOD for Unreal II Information about these three projects can be obtained on the STARGÅTE MOD homepage: http://www.sg-mod.de.vu/ You can also download the projects there and view the development progress. The most important thing I want to say is the following: It is important that you don't mix up these different STARGÅTE projects. At the moment, we are working on the thrid project, STARGÅTE MOD for Unreal II. This mod here was an original attempt for a modification for Unreal Tournament. This mod was done by only two people (a friend of mine and myself), therefore, the maps are not too well-made. We gave up this mod for UT some time ago to concentrate on the new Unreal II based mod. Because of that, this mod is not very long, and the intro is very ugly ;-). But find out for yourself. The upcoming mod for Unreal II will be much better, because the team comsists of more people and we will use the new technologies provided by the new engine. ------------------------------------------------------------ (4) HINTS & TRICKS ------------------------------------------------------------ (I) "Death bug" --------------- At first I have to say that there is a bug I could not fix until the release of the mod. What I mean is when you die, you will not be able to respawn by pressing the left mouse button. The Escape key will also not work in this situation. What you have to do when you get into this situation is the following: - Press the "open console" key (normally Tab) - Press the Escape key twice Now you should find yourself in the main menu. You can open a new game from there on. I'm sorry that I didn't fix that before, but actually I was not able to find the error :-| (II) No saving allowed ---------------------- Throughout the mod, saving is not allowed. Originally, there were plans to make certain "save spots", where the player would be able to save the current game. But since the save spots have never been implemented, saving is disabled by default. I would also recommend not saving the game, because it will be much more fun that way. But if you really need to save, you can use the following console commands to save and load a savegame: - Type "quicksave" in the console to save the current game (this will overwrite any previous saved game) - Type "quickload" in the console to load the saved game. If this doesn't work, type "open ../save/save9.usa" to load the saved game (II) How to survive ------------------- At first, I recommend playing the game with a low ambient brightness , i.e. turn the lights off in your room ;-) Also, don't use a too high brightness setting (hit F11 to change the brishtness in-game). Sometimes, the ammo count will be very low. Therefore, you are encouraged to save as much ammo as you can. When you shoot, try to aim at the correct position. If you don't do that, you will soon be out of ammo. Also, watch for any secret areas where ammo could lie on the ground. I have included many such places, and you will have to look everywhere in order to get all the ammo you need. Don't rush through the levels, you will have to look well in every corner. Concerning health, you will also have to be very cautious. There are many enemies and you have very low health right from the beginning. Look for health everywhere, you will need it! Also, if you have died, try to find out what you did wrong and find out if you need to do what you wanted to do the way you did it ;-) Sometimes, things are much more easy if you think about them some time and then get them on. Yeah, I've included some riddles hehe...
